Meet Our Kinesiologist
Cindy Lopez
Cindy Lopez is a proud graduate of California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) where she earned her B.S. in Exercise Science in 2014. As an undergraduate, Ms. Lopez worked at the CSULA Mobility Center where she first gained experience treating disabled patients, fostering her love of spinal cord injury research and rehabilitation and building her knowledge of adaptive kinesiology and therapeutic exercise. Cindy continued developing her professional skills after graduation when she joined NextStep Fitness, an LA-based non-profit fitness center dedicated to providing long-term adaptive fitness options and activity-based therapies to neurologically impaired patients. At NextStep Fitness, Cindy joined the Reeve Foundation’s NeuroRecovery Network as an Activity-based Therapy (ABT) practitioner, expanding her hands-on experience to include additional neurological conditions including TBI, MS, and stroke. In 2019, Ms. Lopez joined Reneu Health, a SoCal team of Clinical Kinesiologists whose mission is two-fold: 1. Set the standard of care for mobility-impaired patients; and 2. Drive innovation in healthcare through strategic partnerships and collaborations with MedTech industry leaders and neuroscience researchers. Currently, Ms. Lopez is Reneu Health’s Area Manager and Supervising Lead Kinesiologist for the L.A. area.
In addition to her ABT work, Cindy also serves as a consultant to top researchers in neuroscience and spinal e-stim neuromodulation, lending her expertise in ABT and clinical kinesiology to aid in clinical study design and implementation. Ms. Lopez has worked with world renowned researchers, Drs. Reggie Edgerton and Hui Zhang (UCLA and Rancho Research Institute) since 2020 studying the combination treatments of transcutaneous spinal e-stim neuromodulation + ABT in spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy. Additionally, Cindy has worked as a consultant for a UCLA neuroscience lab since 2020 studying epidural spinal e-stim + ABT in spinal cord injury. Ms. Lopez has amassed thousands of hours of hands-on practical patient work and is an expert in neuromodulation, ABT, and clinical kinesiology.
Cindy Lopez is a dedicated ABT practitioner who aims to improve quality of life and recovery for all her patients. She considers her ongoing work with Dr. Edgerton the professional honor of a lifetime and continues to learn alongside him about the human potential for recovery after spinal cord injury. Cindy loves her profession, her work, the bonds she builds with her clients, and is proud of the progress they achieve every day.
